Our April 1st meeting will be held at Glenridge Hall and Mike Francis of Maple Ridge Nursery will present us with a jovial and interesting educational message about his collection of Japanese Maples.
Mike grows one of the largest collections of Japanese Maples in the SE, and because they are grow here they are well suited for our climate. He will be selling trees to the club and has also sells several maples and conifers that he also grows. Some are presently growing in the gardens at Glenridge Hall.
Mike and his wife Christy started the family business in 1988. Mike grew up in the nursery business. His grandfather, Henry Haralson, was a nurseryman who owned his own nursery for 35 years, and taught Mike how to grow things and appreciate plants. Mike worked in marketing and real estate until opening our two closely related businesses. Greenhouse Nurseries, which was the retail nursery, and The Maple Farm which was the wholesale branch. In 2007 they were consolidated into Maple Ridge Nursery.
Mike and Christy collect conifers such as Chaemacyparis, Cedrus Deodara, and Cryptomeria. They have more than 200 varieties of hostas and 350 cultivars of Acer palmatum collected. Mike also has a passion for Koi and Water Gardening. Maple Ridge Nursery is located on Covington Highway in Decatur. They may be reached at ww.mapleridgenursery.com; telephone 770-987-4066.
